Amnioscopy and foetal blood sampling: observations on foetal acidosis.

چکیده

Amnioscopy is available as an out-patient procedure, whenever hazards threaten the life of the foetus during late pregnancy. An endoscope-the amnioscope-is passed into the cervical canal so that the amniotic fluid can be inspected through the intact forewaters. Amniotic fluid which is clear, or milky from emulsification of vernix, indicates that conditions within the uterus are normal. Green or yellow liquor or an absence of liquor should indicate that there are signs of threatened danger to the foetus. Because nearly all the abnormalities of late pregnancy endangering the life of the foetus are only slowly progressive, it is only necessary to perform amnioscopy as a screening test every other day.

Correlation between the foetal acid-base status and the Apgar score.

The foetal pH values of eighty-eight cases delivered within 30 min after foetal blood sampling were correlated with the 1-min Apgar score. With a pH of 7.20 or above the error of prediction was 1'3%o. The error in cases with pH below 7.20 was 54'5/. Significantly higher pH and lower A base deficit were present in the low foetal pH group in vigorous, as opposed to depressed infants, suggesting t...

Validity of Ctg Monitoring for the Diagnosis of Acute Foetal Hypoxia

K e y w o r d s acute foetal hypoxia, cardiotocography, caesarean delivery, foetal pulse oximetry INTRODUCTION Acute foetal hypoxia (AFH) is one of the most serious pathological conditions during the prenatal and perinatal periods, and is a frequent cause of neonatal mortality and morbidity. Diagnosis of foetal asphyxia in labour.

For many years intermittent recording of the foetal heart rate with a stethoscope and the detection of meconium in the liquor have been the only signs used for diagnosing intrapartum foetal asphyxia. Although the system has the virtue of simplicity, the unexpected disappearance of foetal heart sound when the foetal heart rate was being recorded as normal, or the frequent delivery of a vigorous ...

Foetal acid-base status in clinical foetal distress and high risk cases.

The acid-base balance in 307 Chinese patients in labour was studied in Tsan Yuk Hospital, Hong Kong over a 15-month period. Fifty-six of these were normal cases, 200 cases exhibited clinical signs of foetal distress and the other fifty-one were high risk cases. The results showed that cases of clinical foetal distress had a significantly lower foetal pH than that in the normal control group. Of...
